Elective Skills Courses (1.5 hour courses)
Assertiveness
Develop skills
to confidently handle personal and
business situations. A wide variety
of speaking and action skills are
presented and used in the classroom.
Focus on developing fluency rather
than on grammar correction or
pronunciation difficulties unless they
greatly interfere with communication.
Develop new ways of expressing
yourself in order to communicate
clearly, make good choices, create
realistic goals, and stand up for
yourself in a positive way.

Basic Survival
The Basic Survival English skills course
is designed to teach students useful,
practical communication skills that are
necessary for them to survive outside
the classroom in an English-speaking
environment. The language and
situations presented in this course are
practical and reflect the experiences
that the students have while they are
here. Role-plays, listening to realworld
conversations and the sharing
of personal experiences are used to
generate and practice language.

Conversation
Build confidence and improve fluency
through daily practice, dialogues, roleplays
and guided conversation.
Levels: Beginner 1 - Advanced 2
Debating
Learn to form logical, coherent opinions
then present, support and defend
these opinions in debates. Debaters
must be able to read and synthesize
information, and then summarize
and support their ideas. Students
will develop their speaking, listening,
note-taking, and writing skills, and will
improve fluency, confidence and critical
thinking skills.

Listening
Build comprehension of spoken
language by practising listening
activities taken from daily social and
academic situations.

Listening for Professionals
Increase comprehension of business
and academic English. Practise

abstract and theoretical ideas.

Public Speaking
Master the secrets of effective public
speaking. Learn speech organization,
delivery techniques and listening skills

or university: essay writing, lecture

Business Interview Skills
Beginning with personal employment
goals and profession-specific
vocabulary, the primary focus of this
course is interview skills: in person,
online and over the phone. Students
are videotaped and critiqued to

interactive course helps master
industry-related language skills while
gaining an understanding of tourism

Job Ready
Learn valuable practical job skills
including resume and cover letter writing,
how to get a tax file number, setting up
a bank account, work regulations, and
interview skills. Students will also learn
about Australian business culture and
work practices, organisations that support

The world of marketing is full of
constant and exciting evolution.
This course focuses on fundamental
theories, concepts and hands-on
practical experience.

Creative English - Storytelling
Explore the creative side of English
through dramatic role-play, storytelling,
music, poetry and drawing. Study all
the skills and then apply them to a
creative end, from grammar to writing,
pronunciation to public speaking and
beyond.

English Through Art
Explore the language of art, art critique
and art production. Practise English
through drawing, painting, sculpting,
writing in a creative journal and visiting
art exhibits around the city. No previous
art experience is necessary.

thinking, flexibility and decision making
